Yay Sox!
Mood:  caffeinated
Quick, somebody check the Weather Channel's page, I think it's going to be cold in a traditionally VERY hot afterlife place, lol. There's a baseball world championship in Chicago. Not my Cubbies but at this point anything is good.

The caffeine isn't kicking in yet. I wonder how hard it'd be to hook up an IV...

I got to explain about frost to Logan this morning while waiting for the bus. Somebody somewhere should write a manual on basic science refreshers for moms so we don't have to try to remember jr. high science early in the morning. You know, stuff like why the sky is blue, why there's frost and so forth. I'd do it, but me writing a science book is like Courtney Love writing about how to behave in front of royalty.

I gotta get moving, I'm ready to fall asleep here at the computer.

Yay White Sox!
Mood:  caffeinated
Now Playing: Bon Jovi
Ok, so I didn't stay up for the whole game but yay Sox! Sorry to any Houston fans reading this, but I'm a Cubs fan and it's about time somebody from the Windy City was in the Series.

I think my right contact is inside out.

Nano starts next week and I'm still sort of questioning my sanity. Now's a fine time to do that! Watch, I'll get that book assignment and maybe even that editor job I interviewed for yesterday and have to do Nano on top of it. Just hope I don't try to baste myself Thanksgiving morning.

8:23 a.m. and I'm already on my second can of Diet Dew. Hey Pepsico, can I get an endorsement deal? I'll do your ads, you just pay me in Diet Dew. Think it's bad now, wait until I'm squeezing in fiction writing every day - I'll probably go through a case a week.

Mood:  not sure
Now Playing: who can hear anything over the kids?
All right Tripod, you guys need to post a mood icon for those of us who aren't "with it" yet. A week from Tuesday I start NaNoWriMo and the hysteria seems to be subsiding. It's not like they shoot you if you don't do 50,000 words in 30 days. (talk about motivation!)

The laundry is almost caught up so I might have a chance to goof off (gasp!) this weekend. Game 1 of the World Series is tonight but I have to miss it to go to a dirtbike racing league awards banquet. The game will probably still be on when we get home though.

I do hate mornings.

Mood:  chillin'
Now Playing: Goo Goo Dolls, "Broadway"
Why is there no icon for sleepy? I can't be the only blogger who does it in the morning. Hm, there's a place to put an audion clip. Does that mean I can inflict my musical tastes on unsuspecting readers? Hee hee.

I'm feeling a little better about NaNoWriMo. I've got a couple plot ideas, which are ok to do in advance as long as you don't start writing. I need to get back into doing yoga in the morning b/c my back is bugging me today. I need to make a bunch of cookies for a Halloween party we're going to tomorrow night. Poor readers, I can't include a cookie sample here!

Hoo boy
Mood:  spacey
Now Playing: Ryan Shupe, "Dream Big"
Ok, I did something goofy this morning. I signed up for the National Novel Writing Challenge, known in writing circles as NaNoWriMo. Basically, a bunch of people attempt to write a 50,000 novel in 30 days.

That's the gif file you get when you sign up. There's no prize, which is good b/c you only have time to write a first draft and all writers know that first drafts are pure crap. We're talking literary fertilizer here.

So why did I,who usually does nonfiction, sign up? Because I've thought about writing a romantic comedy for years. Because my friend Shirley Jump writes that kind of stuff, and gets it published, and her kids are about the same age as mine. Besides, I figure writing the 1st draft is going to be the hardest. It's easier to remodel a house than to build it from scratch, right? RIGHT??

Hoo boy, what did I get myself into?

A new day, a new blog
Mood:  caffeinated
Now Playing: a purring cat
Well, here we are - I finally have a decent webpage and a shiny new blog. My brain is slowly waking up and if I could just keep the cat off the keyboard, I could get some work done. I've been obsessively checking my email for a message from an editor about a new project (hopefully, details here soon!) and I'm ignoring the laundry. Hopefully the socks aren't trying to organize an attack.

Later I have an exciting afternoon of sending queries, excavating the couch from under a mountain of toys and wondering who will take on the White Sox in the World Series. Ah, to have an all Chicago Series...
